Joseph Mercer set to stand first in Novices’ Hurdle
Joseph Mercer is all set to seal a sterling success in the Herefordshire Emergency Services Novices’ Hurdle that will go down at Hereford racecourse on Tuesday, May 15. The Class 4 contest over a distance of 2 miles and 5 furlongs will start at 1:50 (GMT).
For the prize cheque of £2,014, the Philip Hobbs-trained bay gelding will test his racing credentials against 10 worthy rivals such as Billy Merriott, Duneen Dream, Likearollingstone, Midnight Dove, Monturgeon, Parhelion, R Craig, The Last Bridge, The Walnut
Tree and Miss Harriet Lewis.
Joseph Mercer staged his debut on May 7, 2011 and finished 4th in his maiden race. The five-year-old talented hound moved on to break his maiden on November 19, 2011.
The brilliant sprinter grabbed a 6th spot on March 8, 2012. He finished as a runner-up against 14 contestants in his last outing on April 12, 2012.
At the moment, the talented son of Court Cave out of Vikki’s Dream is packed with winning momentum and enthusiasm that will lend a great hand to him in the coming contest. His chances to finish first are up to 90 percent.
Among Joseph Mercer’s competitors, Parhelion and Monturgeon are expected to perform well in the Novices’ Hurdle.
Parhelion marvellously finished as a runner-up against 14 runners in his last outing on April 15, 2012. Overall, the David Evans-trained bay gelding has won 2 of his total 22 starts so far. The son of Fantastic Light out of Shamaiel looks to be confident
enough for today’s marathon.
On the other hand, Monturgeon has been performing nicely since the very beginning of his career on April 17, 2011. The Champion trainer Alan King’s bay gelding finished 3rd in each of the first two races of his career. He stepped ahead to grab
a runner-up position in each of the three subsequent races. He again finished 2nd in his last start on March 21, 2012.
In this situation, there will be a tough tug of war today. Let us see who gains what. Good luck to all the contestants.
