Joseph O’Brien aiming to guide Maybe to the sixth victory of her career at Epsom
Jockey Joseph O’Brien will be taking charge of, Maybe, in the Group 1 Investec Oaks, on 1st June, 2012 at Epsom. The young rider will also mount, Camelot, in the Investec Derby on 2nd June, 2012, at the
same track.
The nineteen-year-old jockey has seen plenty of success at such a young age, and he is bound to get better with time. The son of trainer Aidan O’Brien has mounted, Maybe, in four of her six starts and guided her to three victories.
On 28th August, 2011, the jockey led the daughter of Galileo, out of mare, Sumora to victory in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at Curragh, where she defeated David Wachman’s charge, Fire Lily by 1 ¾ lengths.
Jockey Ryan Moore will be riding on, Kissed, and hoping that he can guide the D. Smith, Mrs. J. Magnier and M. Tabor owned runner to a placed finish.
Moore was teamed with, Homecoming Queen, in the Qipco 1,000 Guineas Stakes and using his skill, he guided her to victory by a margin of 9 lengths, where she defeated the John Gosden trained Starscope.
Pat Smullen will mount, Twirl, in this race, who previously finished as a runner-up in the Group 3 Tattersalls Musidora Stakes at York on 16th May, 2012, where she finished 4 ½ lengths adrift of the winner, The Fugue.
The Fugue is also a strong competitor in this race, and she will ride in the capable hands of rider, William Buick, who led her to the victory in the aforementioned race.
Richard Hughes will take a ride on A.P O’Brien’s charge, Devotion, and seems pleased with this decision as he told the press that:
"I've had rides for Aidan before and this is grand. I'm looking forward to it."
Devotion, daughter of Dylan Thomas, out of mare Bright Bank, has not claimed a victory in her last four starts, but her finish as a runner-up on 13th May, 2012, is making her connections optimistic about the Oaks.
The bay filly competed in the Group 3 Derrinstown Stud 1,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown and missed the victory by 1 length to winner, Yellow Rosebud.
