Joseph Owinongya: Osumanu Adama has already nailed Daniel Geale by rigorous training – Boxing news
Joseph Owinongya, trainer for Osumanu Adama the current IBO international middleweight champion, is optimistic about his pupil’s 12-round skirmish with Daniel Geale and said that Adama has already won the bout and his appearance in the ring is just a formality
to seal the win and grab the title.
Adama and Daniel are set to enter the ring stretched at Derwent Entertainment Centre, situated in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia and will co-headline the pay-per-view compiled and promoted by Bill Treacy of Grange Old School Boxing. The bout will be televised
on March 7, 2012 from ‘Australia Main Event’ show.
Geale, infamous as the ‘Real Deal’, has been in a total 27 bouts and came out victorious in 26. He has lost just one brawl to Anthony Mundine. The Aussie has collected 15 of his wins by knockout and will defend his IBF middleweight gold against Adama.
Daniel is ranked as the top middleweight pugilist not only in Australia but also in the world. Adama, on the other hand, resides a bit low at eleventh rank in world rankings but rules his country’s middleweight rankings. The stats, feats performed, resilience,
agility, and footwork of both men depict that the engagement will be an impressive one.
Adama has undergone strenuous training for his upcoming encounter so much so that Joseph has subjugated him to spar in the hotel room they are staying in so that the training methodology does not get leaked. Joseph revealed that at the moment just for the
Daniel-bout, Adama runs daily for 11 hours and undergoes half hour sparring sessions with regular intervals.
Joseph optimistically remarked, “I don’t believe Adama will win. I know Adama has already won. We don’t believe in luck. We have won this fight in training. We won this fight weeks ago. Now we must go and complete the victory.”
Adama recently denoted his Wednesday’s opponent as a ‘ballet dancer’, a pun that was effectively replied by Daniel. Geale replied that Adama will understand how one must treat a champion adding that a title holder should not be disgraced by words such as
those uttered by Adama.
Things went worse when Joseph offered Daniel camp to initiate talks for the rematch contract with the view that Daniel might need a rematch since the Ghana proud will take the belt. Adama, 31, widely known as the ‘Ozzie Adams’, has been in a total 22 bouts
and has won 20 of them. He has collected 15 of his wins by knockout.
Moreover, Adama has the unique honour of being the first and the only middleweight champion who hails from Ghana. Adama is coming from a recent knockout win over Roman Karmazin and Daniel will defend his title for the second time.
