Joseph Roebuck claims Men’s 200m IM gold: Day six – British Gas Swimming Championships
Joseph Roebuck of Loughborough University claimed the title of Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on day six of the 2012 British Gas Swimming Championships at the London Aquatics Centre on Thursday, March 8.
The British Championship is an eight-day tournament, which is subject to complete the Great Britain’s team for the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
The 26-year-old Roebuck showed no mercy to his challengers and proved his eligibility for gold medal of the 200m IM discipline by posting a time of 1 minute and 58.16 seconds. His title claiming effort remained 0.26 seconds away from his subsequent swimmer,
James Goddard of Stockport Mo, who clinched silver medal of the discipline by posting a time of 1 minute and 58.42 seconds.
The third position of the event was obtained by Ieuan Lloyd of Co Cardiff, who was 1.55 seconds slower from his former finisher and secured the victory stand for third position by submitting a time of 1 minute and 59.97 seconds.
Lloyd was chased by Roebuck’s team-member, Roberto Pavoni, who remained 0.22 seconds behind and settled on the finishing end for fourth position with an effort of 2 minutes and 00.19 seconds.
After a while, the crowd experienced dazzling efforts of Loughborough University’s Francesca Halsall in the Women’s 100m freestyle. The 21-year-old Halsall remained prominently ahead of her competitors and captured gold medal of the event with the timing
of 53.57 seconds.
She was followed by her team-member, Amy Smith, who stayed 0.44 seconds behind Halsall and settled on the medal rostrum for silver medal by reporting a time of 54.01 seconds.
With her fantastic effort, Smith stayed in a lead of 0.82 seconds over Rebecca Turner, who tapped the finishing wall for bronze medal by clocking a time of 54.83 seconds. Turner enjoyed an advantage of 0.45 seconds over Co Manchester Aquatics’ Jessica Lloyd,
who completed her race in fourth fastest place with an effort of 55.28 seconds.
The audience admired extraordinary efforts of all participants in their respective discipline whereas the position holders were awarded medals and accolades for their undisputed struggles at the prize distribution ceremony after the session.
