Joseph Rogers advances into Men’s Singles second round at US Open Grand Prix Gold 2012
Canada’s upcoming player Joseph Rogers showed a tremendous performance on court when he defeated Tahtat Pojanakanokporn of USA at the Yonex OCBC US Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 at Los Angeles, on Monday, July 2.
Rogers was on a different level while playing against Tahtat as he played positive and controlled badminton to prove his mettle on court. He worked hard to outs his rival without dropping any set.
The in-form Canadian was showed his aggressive skills as he played with complete control and did not let his rival to dictate the pace of rallies at crucial stage in the match and eventually won the battle in two games by taking just 30 minutes.
On the other hand, the spirited USA shuttler also put up superb show as he matched the pace of rallies throughout the contest but failed to overpower his Canadian rival at the ending points of second game and lost to him with a decent score.
The starting points of first set were captivating for the local crowd when both shuttlers played at their best speed and also executed impressive jumping smashes but no one could set up an early lead.
The Canadian took over the control at 8-8 by taking the bird early at net and managed a good lead of 11-8 until the break.
After the interval, the Canadian raced away without facing any interruption from his rival who was having all sorts of trouble while returning the well executed shots of his rival.
Rogers did not show any mercy to Tahtat in opening set and won it in a smashing fashion by a stunning margin of 21-10.
However, the nail-biting contest was yet to come as Tahtat showed his brilliance in the second game when he played attacking badminton while remaining quick in all areas of court and set up an 11-9 lead until the break.
After the interval, Rogers started to keep the bird flat to push his rival on back foot and remained successful in his planning. He levelled the score and continued playing to his maximum potential and wrapped up the game with a thrilling margin of 23-21.
Rogers ousted Tahtat in this 30-minute Men’s Singles straight-set encounter with a striking 21-10 and 23-21 margin on the board.
