Canada’s Joseph Rogers toppled Norway’s Jonas Christensen in the Men’s Singles qualifying-round match of the 2011 Yonex OCBC US Open GP Gold, at California, USA, on Monday, July 11. The Canadian wasted no time in beating Jonas in a straight-set match of
30 minutes.
Rogers remained in superb control of the game against his opponent, who was clearly far behind in his speed and perfection. The Canadian maintained a firm control over the bird throughout the match and finished the encounter in tremendous manner. Despite
a spirited effort from Jonas, he was unable to overcome the challenge from Rogers.
The opening set of the game was completely one-sided, as Rogers rushed to reach at 11-4 without facing any problem from Jonas, who was struggling to get back on the base line after making returns to the powerful strokes of Rogers. The slow speed of Jonas
helped the Canadian to advance in the game without even playing to his full potential.
After the break, Rogers continued enjoying a smooth run in the first set by playing a perfect game. He did not lose his grip at any stage of the opening game, as he was quick in picking the bird from all areas of the court. His perfect play gave him a one-set
advantage, as he finished-off the game in remarkable fashion, in just 13 minutes by a margin of 21-8.
After the break, Jonas tried to make comeback in the game as he was playing at his highest speed. However, Rogers was playing with perfection, as he was anticipating all strokes of his challenger. His perfect anticipation earned him a decent lead in the
first-half, as he reached 11-8 at the interval.
After the break, Rogers stretched the difference by playing with precision as his finishing was wonderful. He was playing perfect badminton in the second-half of the set and finished it with a five-point gap at 21-16, in 17 minutes. This 30-minute one-sided
battle of the qualifying round ended with a 21-8 and 21-16 score in favour of the Canadian.
