Joseph Timms, Leck Chuan shine in Men’s Doubles event of Division 1-Wisden Cup 2012
Men’s Doubles partners Joseph Timms and Leck Chuan Tham showed brilliant coordination against Andrey Degtyarev-Darren Pyne and registered another victory in Division 1-Wisden Cup on August 10, 2012.
This three-set encounter was part of a match between Wellington North and Waitemata Pro-Shop which was played at Hamilton, New Zealand.
Both teams made the crowd gasp with their breath-taking performance before final result of 21-16, 23-25 and 21-17.
The team of Joseph and Leck Chuan proved themselves superior to their rivals in the opening and ending sets whereas the opposing team could live its moment of glory only in second set.
First game heated up with some gruelling rallies straight away in the beginning as both contenders put all they had to gain an early advantage.
They chased each other all the way to mid-game break and none of them could establish a permanent lead.
At first, Joseph and Leck made swift progress by grabbing couple of successive points but they could not go with same flow and allowed their challengers to catch them just before the interval.
Andrey and Darren made best out of this opportunity and finished first half with a slight edge but they lost the grip over game when their opponents launched an effective counter-attack strategy and thrashed them with 21-16 margin.
However, the Waitemata Pro-Shop campaigners did not lose nerve after this blow as they managed to survive a nerve-racking tussle in very next set.
This time, Andrey and Darren did not repeat previous mistakes and kept proceeding at top gear. They showed their class by coming out of their opponent’s influence in both sections of the set.
In first half, they placed a respectable total before the interval and then managed to stay in the contest by registering a tight yet decisive figure of 25-23.
This revised match score turned the third set into a survival of the fittest war as both team were equal with one win each. They pushed each other in all areas of the court and remained toe-to-toe until third quarter of the set.
However, Joseph and Leck struck hard when it mattered and sealed their victory with a staggering knock of 21-17.
