Josh Beckett helps Boston Red Sox shutout Seattle Mariners 5-0 – MLB Update

Boston Red Sox shutout Seattle Mariners 5-0 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Tuesday, May 15 in the second game of their two match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. Not only the Red Sox won the series with their win against
the Mariners but they also improved their record to 17-19.
Bobby Valentine and company secured an emphatic 6-1 win in the opening game and they have now won five out their last games. There is no denying the fact the Red Sox is one of the best teams in American League.
However, they have not been able to live to their immense potential since the start of the season. If Boston can continue their impressive form for long enough, they will have an excellent opportunity to get over the .500 win percentage mark for the first
time this season.
David Ortiz looked in commanding touch on Tuesday’s evening as he homered to right in the third to give the Red Sox 1-0 lead. Mike Aviles doubled Boston’s advantage to 2-0 with a double to right centre in the fourth.
Ryan Sweeney, D Nava and Cody Ross also made useful contributions to help the Red Sox establish complete control over the contest. Starting pitcher Josh Beckett had an excellent time on the mound as he struck out season best nine and he gave up just four
hits in seven solid innings.
"I don't think I was trying to make a statement," Beckett said. "I don't even know that I did. Location was key for me today, I just kept the ball down."
"You just want to keep your team in the game. The starters have been doing that lately, and it's nice to keep that going," Beckett said. "It's nice. These guys have been playing their butts off all year. It's nice to be able to keep that going."
It will be interesting to see if the Red Sox can turn the tables before the All Star break. Mariners, on the other hand, struggled to execute their game plan once more and they paid the ultimate price for their unforced errors.
