Josh Childress Will Play In Greece?

Was this a wise move on his part? In what way did he think this would work for him? I can see becoming a free agent would get him some more money but why Greece? I liked him but the Hawks will do ok in the next several years. Talk to me. Thanks!

  1. I don't know. Will Hawks be a good team next season yes.

  2. Childress is a smart guy and not someone who would make a decision purely based on taking more short term money.  Part of his reasoning was seeing more of the world and gaining value from a new experience and also seeing what it is like to be the star of the team instead of the 6th man.  He always felt unappreciated by the Hawks and their management is incompetent and probably did not realize his value.  He will likely have more value when his Greek contract runs out, but it will depend if the NBA decides that they will blackball him for going to Europe for more cash.  I have no faith in the Hawks, management sucks and Woodson is a mediocre coach.  They have young talent but it probably won't amount to much.

  3. of course it was wise hes gettin paid so much more then the hawks were gonna giv him, in the end he wantd to b wit the hawks but they wouldnt giv him the deal he wantd so he went to greece

  4. Lets see they apparently are paying his taxes. So he gets to keep all of his twenty million dollars. The team also pays for the agent fees. He was on PTI the other day and they asked was it about the money. he said no it was also about getting paid. Yes it was all about the money the Hawks didn't want to overpay for a great role player and so he bolted. The Hawks have just been unfortunate with the fact that their players feel like being greedy. I heard somewhere Josh Smith was reported offered 60 million dollars over a period of time. If he thinks he is worth anymore he has to rethink his NBA career. He might be worth 14-17 million in Europe.

Greedy is probably too harsh a word. Their players feel like getting paid the maximum. But the Hawks negotiating tactics aren't the best and their ownership is a little more worried about saving money than keeping a playoff team intact.

Addition: If he ever decides to return to the NBA he will still be a restricted free agent for the hawks (if they decide to offer him a qualifying offer). Greece was never his option. He said on PTI he wanted to remain in the NBA. he was offered a longer deal worth less money per year and he'd have to pay his agent fees taxes.
