Josh Childress will be a Net next season ...
The Brooklyn Nets are continuing to add talent to their already superstar loaded roster for next season. In an attempt to open their new arena in Brooklyn with a big bang, the Nets have been on a spending spree ever since free
agency began, acquiring some big names for big bucks. And apparently, the Nets are not done with their acquisitions. The franchise has acquired wingman Josh Childress in a one year non-guaranteed deal.
Howard Beck of the New York Times broke the story, which has now become a fact after Childress confirmed it on Twitter. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports! has added that the deal is unguaranteed, meaning that the Nets can release
him during training camp by buying his contract out for a small amount of money. If he is able to make the regular season roster, he will get the veteran’s minimum over the course of his contract.
Childress played his first four season with the Atlanta Hawks, and turned a few heads around by averaging 13 points and 2.3 assists in his third season when he started only 13 games. He felt betrayed when it came time for a contract
re-signing at the end of the four year rookie contract with the Hawks, and went to Europe to play basketball in Greece. He played the last two seasons for the Phoenix Suns, but was unable to exhibit his old magic, averaging only 2.9 points and 1 assist in
14.4 minutes of playing time per game. The Suns used their amnesty clause on him at the end of the season.
Childress may be a good find for the Nets, as amnestied players sometimes play better than expected and are a great value for money asset. He is well known for his athleticism on the court, but was unable to make a good fit with
former Suns point guard Steve Nash. Now, Childress has one more opportunity to prove that he can be a good backup wingman, when he starts playing for the Nets.
The Nets are looking for talented players to complete the roster and fill voids in the line-up. They are charged up for what will be an extremely exciting and much followed first season in Brooklyn.
