Josh Collmenter shines in Arizona Diamondbacks’ crucial 8-1 victory - MLB Playoffs
Arizona Diamondbacks’ starter, Josh Collmenter had a remarkable day with the ball as he pitched his seven innings with an ERA of just 1.29 to give the Diamondbacks an 8-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in the do-or-die Game 3 of the playoffs.
Collmenter was fabulous with his pitching as he struck-out six batters and outclassed the Brewers in almost every discipline. He surrendered only one run, one home-run, two walks, two hits and one earned run on his 93 pitches. The relievers also contributed
equally as David Hernandez struck-out one batter in his one inning pitched.
Diamondbacks’ closer J.J. Putz was also quick enough to crush the Brewers’ batters through his 17 awesome pitches. He gave away only one hit in his one pitched inning. Speaking to reporters, Collmenter expressed his excitement and said, “I wanted to look
at myself as a bridge to get to that next game, to give us two here at home and Milwaukee held serve on their end and now it's our turn.”
On Tuesday night, Collmenter was on fire with his amazing pitches. Arizona's manager, Kirk Gibson appointed him as a starter in place of Joe Saunders, who struggled in the previous game. The batters and fielders also co-operated well in this must-win game.
Gibson said, “I think he had one ground-ball out, struck out six tonight, and I think everything else was in the air.”
With that convincing victory, Collmenter improved his overall ERA as well. He threw the last 21 innings perfectly and gave away just one earned run. In his MLB career through July 6, Collmenter had a 6-6 Win-Loss record and 63 strike-outs. He was unable
to attain some saves during his exemplary career but threw his respective innings with an ERA of 3.10.
In the regular season, Collmenter pitched his individual innings with an ERA of 3.38 and a Win-Loss record of 10-10.
Saunders will start the next game for the Diamondbacks as he had a satisfactory Win-Loss record during second half of the regular season. It will be a great challenge for him to make a place in the Diamondbacks’ roster for the series finale.
