Josh Collmenter sparks as Arizona Diamondbacks beat Atlanta Braves, 2-1 – MLB Update
Arizona Diamondbacks’ starter, Josh Collmenter had a remarkable day with the ball as he pitched six dominant innings in the Diamondbacks’ 2-1 victory against the Atlanta Braves at Chase Field, Arizona, on May 19.
Collmenter did not allow a run on two hits with one strike-out. He improved his ERA to a great extent as he pitched with 0.69 throughout his respective innings. Josh said of his game tactics, “I don't want to hurt myself by walking guys. That's been my game
plan all along is work it in and out and mix up my pitches, keep them off balance and try and keep balls out of kind of their wheelhouse.”
The pitchers gave momentum to their teams while the batters were unable to score even a single run in the first five innings. Collmenter mixed his curveballs with fastballs and had nasty changeups as well. He proved his new pitching trick which was known
as ‘tomahawk-throwing style’.
The Diamondbacks contributed two runs in the sixth inning when Chris Young hit a solo homer (386 feet) off the left-field position and Miguel Montero scored a single run on the triple of Juan Miranda to deep centre-field spot. The score-card was 2-0 at the
end of the sixth inning and the Braves’ fans were disappointed with the way their team played in the game.
The seventh and eighth inning remained empty and the score-board was unmoved. The Braves missed some scoring opportunities as well during the eighth inning when Nate McLouth hit a sacrifice fly and Brooks Conrad popped out on the first base. Brian McCann
scored one run on the fielding error of Justin Upton and cut-off the Braves’ deficit to 2-1 at the end of ninth inning. The Diamondbacks went score-less in the end.
The Braves’ Manager Fredi Gonzalez was frustrated with the batters’ performance. Speaking to reporters, he said, "J.J. pitched good enough to win the ballgame but our bats didn't come alive until those last two innings. Our bats have been going hot and cold,
so hopefully we will get going again.”
Jair Jurrjens pitched six innings with an ERA of 1.80 and gave away two runs on eight hits with two earned runs. He had three strike-outs on his 84 pitches.
