Josh Donaldson seeking backstop role with the Oakland Athletics

Catcher Josh Donaldson is looking to secure a place with the Oakland Athletics this year. The Oakland Athletics have a lot of experience to offer on the hitting squad and as far as their talent goes, their pitching rotation is overflowing with it. The young
stars are making their way to the top league and rosters are getting adjusted for new entrants in the positions and the rotations. One player that does not shy away from that list happens to be catcher, Josh Donaldson.
The 25-year-old backstop got to feel what it’s like to play in the Major Leagues last year and he wants to grab on to the full-time job this year. His objective is to make the best of the opportunities bestowed to him and win the Major League position with
dignity.
"This is probably the first year for me I can really say that, that I feel like I have a real good opportunity to make the team out of camp," Donaldson said. "I tried to put in a good offseason, and when the games start I'll hopefully perform well."
At the moment, Donaldson faces a number of players in contention with his desired role. Landon Powell is one of the top players for the role, but his weak contribution last year, does not make him the first choice player in the catcher’s position. 19-year
old prospect, Max Stassi is also another player and he might breakthrough, following Kurt Suzuki’s confirmed departure from the role.
Donaldson played with Triple-A Sacramento last year, brewing an average of .238 in 86 games. The player wants to play in the Major Leagues like last year, when Suzuki left.
"The pace of the game, from a defensive standpoint, was fine because I've caught the majority of the guys here," Donaldson said. "I've had the opportunity to come into four Major League camps now. But I was surprised, just from the difference at the plate
from Spring Training to the real games, just because it is a bit quicker. "
The player is practising hard and preparing for the challenge, but it’s anyone’s guess if a call will come by or not.
