Josh Finnie – Daniel Cleminson grab Boy’s Doubles U-17 title at Canterbury Under 17&13 Championships
New Zealand’s talented shuttler Josh Finnie and Daniel Cleminson delivered a stunning performance as they won the Boy’s Doubles U-17 title after beating their lower ranked team-mates Chris Zhu and Mitchell Wilson in the final showdown at the 2012 Canterbury
Under 17&13 Championships on Sunday, June 10, in New Zealand.
The in-form Josh and Daniel, who were the top seeds in Men’s Doubles draw of the event, continued their roller-coaster run in the final match against their second seeded compatriots and wrapped up victory without experiencing any problem.
The top seeds Josh and Daniel were just incredible in the court as they played with impressive precision and easily registered a comprehensive win over their team-mates in straight games without showing any mercy.
Chris and Wilson, on the other hand, tried to play competitive badminton but failed to cope up with the pace and power of their rivals and eventually lost the final battle in two games without creating a strong impact.
In the first game, Josh and Daniel started their run in a dominating manner as they played with impressive speed and also executed attacking strokes to maintain pressure on their opponents.
Until the one-minute interval in the opening set of this title match, Josh and Daniel were leading the game with a wonderful margin.
After the mid-game interval, Chris and Wilson changed their strategy and tried to dominate the pace of rallies by becoming quick at net but they failed to control the bird and remained trailing on the board.
In the meanwhile, Josh and Daniel were focused in the court and they easily took advantage in the match by grabbing the set with a wonderful margin of 21-13.
In the second game, Chris and Wilson put up strong resistance by working well in all corners of the court. They progressed closely against their higher ranked team-mates while remaining focused in the court.
Until the interval, both pairs were close on the score board as no one could construct a comfortable gap.
After the break, the higher ranked Josh and Daniel geared up their speed and took over the control from their opponents.
The top seeds worked really well in the concluding phase and wrapped up the second game with a three-point margin of 21-18.
Josh and Daniel won the final battle in straight sets with a sensational 21-13 and 21-18 score on the board.
