Josh Finnie claim Boy’s Singles U-17 title at 2012 Canterbury Under 17&13 Championships
New Zealand’s Josh Finnie proved his elevated craft as he grabbed Boy’s Singles U-17 title after beating his compatriot Mitchell Wilson in the title match of 2012 Canterbury Under 17&13 Championships in New Zealand, on Sunday, June 10.
Finnie, who was seeded at the top in Boys Singles main draw of the championship, showed his aggressive performance in the court and wrapped up victory in a sensational fashion by a tremendous margin on the board.
The in-form Finnie was in complete control of the game as he remained aggressive in the court and managed to end up the contest in straight games with a comprehensive margin.
On the other hand, the second seeded Wilson failed to live up to expectations while playing against his higher ranked team-mate as he could not match the skills and speed of Finnie and lost the contest without winning any game.
Right from the opening points, it was Finnie who remained dominant by dictating the pace of rallies. He was in superb form throughout the tournament and maintained his positive run in the final while remaining focused and composed in the court.
Until the one-minute interval, Finnie did not face any considerable trouble from his lower ranked opponent in setting up a marvellous lead on the score board.
After the break, Finnie continued his roller coaster performance without slowing down his speed and wrapped up the set in a sensational manner by a tremendous margin of 21-12.
In the second game, Wilson tried to put up strong resistance by playing attacking badminton but he failed to live up to expectations and remained miles behind of his rival until the one-minute break.
After the interval, it was the top seeded Finnie who continued putting up thrashing show without slowing down the pace of rallies and managed to maintain his upper hand in the game.
The higher ranked Finnie continued putting up wonderful show of top quality badminton in the ending phase of final set and managed to win it with a superb score of 21-8.
Finnie won the title match in straight games against his lower ranked opponent by a stunning 21-12 and 21-8 margin on the score board.
