Josh Hamilton frustrated by critical views
Texas Rangers’, Josh Hamilton, entered the disabled list for the third time on April 12, 2011, when he injured his arm on a freak slide in Michigan.
The damage came in the form of a non-displaced fracture in the humerus bone that is just below the right shoulder. He sustained the blow when he took the opportunity on running home from third base.
However, things went differently as the player was tagged out on a headfirst slide to the last base.
Facing the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park was testing for the outfielder and his slide that caught the tag off catcher, Victor Martinez’s, glove went for nothing substantial.
The injury has put Hamilton behind six to eight weeks rehabilitation schedule. The hitter has been gaining critical views on his slide and he is frustrated over the comments.
"I do get tired of people saying, 'He has only played in this amount of games or averaged so many games over the past four or five years'. It's not like I'm getting hurt doing nothing, like running the bases. I'm getting hurt making plays and playing the
game of baseball. Maybe I should be a wimp and not play the game the way I know how to play it".
He knows what the current situation means for him. People will come out to question his plays and he does not want to answer those concerns again. This has been something he’s familiar with, in the past.
"That's like beating a dead horse", Hamilton said. "How else would I play? I don't want to be a wimp. It's becoming a pain in my rear, playing hard and getting questioned about it”.
Hamilton expressed his frustration further as he told reporters that it was understandable to face the wrath of critics if he was pulling hamstrings or fitness injuries but that has not been the case so far.
All problems have come from high intensity plays. From hitting walls to sliding head first, Hamilton believes these are all plays that the game asks him to make during the course of time.
