Josh Hamilton may be bought by Philadelphia Phillies from free agent market-MLB Update
As the offseason progresses, the probability that the Philadelphia Phillies buy outfielder, Josh Hamilton has increased. It is so due to several reasons. The top most significant among them is the financial leeway that the Phillies enjoy at the moment.
Following the inexpensive acquisitions of Michael Young and Ben Revere, they are in a position to spend some money in the free agent market.
So far, the Phillies have stayed away from the market, fulfilling their needs through cost effective trade options, more often.
Such an attitude from the part of their management has helped the club save a lot of money.
They have addressed almost all the issues with their roster, without making huge financial commitments with the new entrants.
For example, the vacant spot in the outfield was filled by Revere. Similarly, inclusion of Young has ended the debate on who is going to be the regular third baseman for the team during 2013.
All these developments have made the Phillies ideally poised to claim Hamilton.
As the rest of the organisations see their spending capacity shrinks due to the purchase of other players, it is unlikely the majority of them can afford Hamilton at the moment.
By many accounts, the Phillies come forth as an organisation, which can meet the demands of the free agent, Hamilton.
If the deal between both the parties takes place, it will be the first big thing coming off from Philadelphia this offseason.
In the form of Hamilton, the Phillies can find someone, who can genuinely accelerate their chances for victory next year.
He can prove to be an ideal protection against the possibility that the experienced campaigners such as Chase Utley and Ryan Howard struggle during 2013.
If the likes of Howard do not step up as expected, it will ruin the winning prospects of the club. It will be tantamount to another subpar season by the offence of the team, which hosts highly expensive players on the roster.
Such a possibility calls for the contingency plan. With the inclusion of Hamilton, it can be framed by the club.
It will be interesting to see how the Phillies think about the acquisition of Hamilton as the days pass.
