Josh Hamilton rejects Texas Rangers big offer – MLB Update
Free agent Josh Hamilton has rejected Texas Rangers big offer. Sources say that the offer was reportedly $13.3 million but Hamilton and his agent turned down this fresh lucrative deal.
B.J. Upton and Kyle Lohse have also turned down offers from their respected clubs.
The Major League is experiencing a new trend this offseason. With the implementation of new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the players know that they will receive a good amount of money as free agents.
MLB has made sure that the new CBA will be implemented this year and according to this, the players are eligible to get the teams’ revenues with certain percentage. While the new contract also will comprise of an average amount of the highest paid Major League professionals in the entire league.
"It was a formality for us, Josh wasn't taking a one-year paycut. We know all the possible ways it can play. Josh has intimated that we'd get an option. We'd talk before he does something. I'd expect we'll talk before he does something,” Rangers' general manager Jon Daniels said of the qualifying offer.
“It expedites things, People are out there and available and being discussed right away,” said Dave Dombrowski, president of the AL champion Detroit Tigers. “It definitely has picked things up more quickly.”
Daniels, who is considered one of the most talented executives of MLB and Dave Dombrowski both agree that whoever the player is, they must think regarding all the aspects which could affect their future.
Both also seemed optimistic when they met in the recent general manager’s meeting and discussed in detail regarding various aspects of the game.
Coming onto Josh Hamilton and his free agency, some experts also believe that Rangers will be offering another contract to him despite the fact that he has rejected their $13.3 million offer.
Hamilton finished the 2012 season with .285 hitting average along with 43 exceptional homers, 128 RBIs and .354 OBP.
His past season performance also makes him a very good productive player. He is currently sitting comfortable at his career .304 hitting average along with 161 strike-outs and 553 RBIs.
