Josh Hamilton shines as Boston Red Sox lose to Texas Rangers 9-10 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox were beaten by the Texas Rangers 9-10 in a high scoring thriller at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Wednesday, August 8 in the finale of their three match series.
Bobby Valentine and company put up a brave fight but the Rangers were very determined. Credit should be given to Texas’ offence that made the most of scoring opportunities in a game that was played on an extremely competitive note.
Red Sox, on the other hand, will be disappointed to take another embarrassing loss on Wednesday. It was Boston’s sixth loss in their last ten games and it will be interesting to see if they can come up with better tactics to beat Cleveland Indians in their
next series.
After the Rangers took an early 3-0 lead, Adrian Gonzalez earned a double to deep right to put the Red Sox on the board. Cody Ross showed just what he is capable of as he homered to left in the third inning to level the score 3-3.
Matt Moreland, Josh Hamilton, Nelson Cruz and catcher Geovany Soto all hit home-runs as the Rangers took an impassable 9-5 lead in the seventh inning.
Adrian Gonzalez added a double to right and Will Middlebrooks connected for a three run home-run in the seventh to keep Boston’s hopes alive but the Rangers were too hot to handle.
"He's the heart of the lineup," said right fielder Nelson Cruz of Hamilton, who had one RBI for Texas. "When he's doing good, everybody's seeing more pitches to hit and drive runners in."
"I saw him coming out of it a week or so ago," Rangers’ manager Ron Washington said. "He's laying off the real bad pitches. Because Josh is a swinger, he's going to swing at some pitches. ... He's swinging the bat well. When he's going real well is when
there's RBIs out there, and he's not missing very many."
Adrian Beltre hit a sacrifice fly to centre in the ninth to deliver the go ahead run and the Rangers secured an emphatic series victory.
Red Sox starter Josh Beckett paid the ultimate price for his errors on the mound as he gave up eight earned runs in just five innings, which increased his ERA to 4.97.
