Josh Hamilton shines as Texas Rangers defeat Seattle Mariners 7-6 – MLB Update
The Texas Rangers resurged on Tuesday, August 9 to win a seemingly difficult victory against the Seattle Mariners 7-6 at Rangers Ballpark.
Josh Hamilton hit the winning run after the team was facing a deficit of three runs.
It was the victory that imbued more confidence in Hamilton, prompting him to remark. "We never think we're out of a game in any way, shape or form," Hamilton said. "We never say die until it's over."
Ian Kinsler and Endy Chavez also went for the respective homers to guide the Texas Rangers’ victory where the Mariners initially had a 6-3 lead up until the seventh inning.
"We just have a lot of confidence in ourselves and our teammates," Kinsler said. "We know we have guys up and down the lineup that are capable of getting something started or finishing something off. When you have that feeling it's very easy to stay calm."
For the Mariners, the seventh inning proved disastrous. "That's what killed us," manager Eric Wedge said. "You can't give a team like that free passes. They have too many good hitters and do a good job in scoring position."
Tuesday’s game began with Alexi Ogando on the mound against the clearly prepared Seattle Mariners’ offence. Before Ogando could wrap up his first inning, Mike Carp swung the bat to score the first run for the Mariners.
Adam Kennedy subsequently had another hit to score the second run for the Mariners. But the Rangers hitters did not fall behind. Endy Chavez homered to right to score the first run for the Rangers followed by an RBI single of Michael Young.
Once the first inning ended, the Rangers had already levelled the score but that did not last long. Kyle Seager of the Mariners scored another single against Alexi Ogando to give 3-2 lead to the Mariners.
Chavez singled again to level the score. However, the Mariners did not seem to let the Texas Rangers starter go. Adam Kennedy hit a two run RBI to take the lead to 5-3 while Miguel Olivo scored a single to have a 6-3 lead for the Seattle Mariners.
Michael Pineda then pitched scoreless innings, entering into the sixth. Once Josh Lueke relieved him in the seven, Ian Kisler had a two-run homer to bring back the Rangers in the game with 6-5 score on the card.
Yorvit Torrealba levelled the score in the eighth against Jeff Gray. Neftali Feliz pitched a scoreless ninth to keep the score level when Josh Hamilton hit a single against Jeff Gray to bring an unexpected but exciting 7-6 victory for the Rangers in the
ninth.
