Josh Hamilton sparks as Texas Rangers defeat Boston Red Sox 11-4 - MLB Update
Texas Rangers’ left-fielder, Josh Hamilton had a tremendous day with the bat as he hit triple RBIs and went 1-for-5 with an average of .299 in the Rangers’ 11-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, Boston on September 4.
In the first inning, the batters looked immobilised as the pitchers threw tricky pitches at their feet. Hamilton was hit by a pitch but Ian Kinsler, Elvis Andrus and Michael Young each flied out towards right-field without taking runs. Similarly, Red Sox
centre-fielder Jacoby Ellsbury grounded out, Dustin Pedroia popped out and Adrian Gonzalez struck-out without adding even a single run.
Rangers started their runs flow in the second inning and got a 1-0 lead when Mike Napoli hit a single-run drive towards left-field and David Murphy posted a single run. During the third inning, Rangers led off 2-0 when Kinsler tripled to deep right-centre
and Endy Chavez added one run to lift the potential of the Rangers.
Young walked during the fourth inning but his team-mates got out cheaply as Adrian Beltre flied out and Mitch Moreland struck-out by missing the valuable runs. Similarly, in the fifth inning, the batters from both teams looked powerless as they were unable
to yield runs.
Rangers’ starter, Matt Harrison also had a notable day as he struck-out five batters on his 111 pitches and threw seven innings with an ERA of 3.50. He permitted two earned runs, seven hits, two runs and two walks on his respective pitches.
In the sixth inning, Rangers stepped on the gas quickly and accelerated their lead 9-0 by smashing seven valuable runs. Young scored the first run when Murphy singled off left-centre. The second run was taken by Beltre when Moreland drove a single-run shot
towards right-field and Napoli occupied second base.
All the batters looked in great form as Murphy added another run when Esteban German walked and Moreland moved to second base. Napoli contributed a single run on the sacrifice fly of Kinsler towards right-field. The last three runs were taken by Moreland,
German and Andrus when Hamilton struck a triple-run shot to deep centre-field.
Red Sox added their initial two runs during seventh inning and reduced their lead 9-2. Carl Crawford and Jarrod Saltalamacchia both posted two collective runs at the bottom of seventh inning when Marco Scutaro singled off centre-field. In the eighth inning,
Red Sox further cut their deficit to 9-4 by blasting two runs. David Ortiz singled to shallow right-field and Gonzalez scored one run.
Kevin Youkilis added the second run when Darnell McDonald hit a sacrifice fly to right-field. Rangers took an 11-4 lead in the ninth inning when Napoli and Kinsler both struck two home-runs jointly.
However, Rangers were able to clinch the three-game series 2-1 at Boston.
