Josh Harrison’s debut gives Pittsburgh Pirates 5-1 win over New York Mets – MLB Update
Josh Harrison made an awe-inspiring Major League debut on Tuesday, May 31 hitting a difficult shot in the eighth inning to give the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-1 victory against New York Mets at Citi Field, New York.
When Harrison was asked how felt after having the hit. He said, "It just felt like I had been doing it my whole life. That's how comfortable I felt, you know? Which allowed me to go out there and perform," Harrison said. "It's all I ever thought it would
be. I can enjoy it."
R.A. Dickey undoubtedly provided an ideal start to the Mets until everything started going wrong in the eighth inning. When Dickey came out to pitch, there was hardly anyone to play him comfortably among the Pirates’ offence.
The Mets’ offence, on the other hand, had indeed had a very aggressive start. James McDonald was to pay a good deal in the very first inning for his mistake. Jason Bay reached on an infield single and Angel Pagan scored, giving an early 1-0 lead to New York.
McDonald gave up two hits in the inning.
The whole game was in the absolute position of pitchers who kept dominating the respective team’s defence. Imbued with confidence, Dickey committed a mistake that caught him and his team off-guard in the eighth inning.
While Dickey was fierce in the seventh innings, this time he was victim to Harrison’s bat, as the debutant changed it all by levelling the score with a brilliant shot.
"I don't think really any emotions came over me," Harrison said. "My teammates were probably more excited for me. They were all giving me hugs and I was just giving them a hug back, but I was so caught up in the heat of the moment worried about running the
bases that I didn't really like, jump for joy.”
Neil Walker then scored a two-run homer to make it 3-1 for the Pirates. Dickey gave up three hits in the inning that gave the irreversible lead to the Pirates. If that was not enough, Bobby Parnell, who replaced Dickey, was then subject to a big hit by Brandon
Wood in the ninth inning that gave a conclusive 5-1 lead to Pittsburgh. Joel Hanrahan pitched a shut-out inning for the Pirates to give his team a 5-1 victory.
