Josh Johnson yearns to be with Miami Marlins but trade beyond his control - MLB Update
With the trade deadline around the corner, the Miami Marlins’ starting pitcher Josh Johnson is growing conscious of what may happen with him within the next few hours. The reports confirm that the Marlins are open for trading Johnson to any club. However,
the hurler wants to remain with the organisation.
He has stated that he does not like the idea of leaving an organisation with which he has spent years.
The Marlins have decided to become a seller as they head toward ending up the season with a dismal position on the National League East Division table. Since the start of the season, they have struggled to put up performances on consistent basis.
The star players that they adored their roster with before the beginning of the season have not stepped up for the team the way they were supposed to. Therefore, the only option now left for the club is unloading their roster and acquiring prospects for
future.
In this connection, Johnson is likely to be traded in exchange for young players, despite the fact that the pitcher is one of the most reliable hurlers on the Marlins' rotation.
Meanwhile, Miami’s manager Ozzie Guillen has stepped up in the support for Johnson, saying that he personally loves to see the pitcher in the club. However, he has clarified that the decision about his trade is at the disposal of the General Manager Michael
Hill and therefore he has nothing to do with it.
"Yes, I want JJ here," Ozzie Guillen said. "I think we all do. There is no doubt. I think he's a great kid, great pitcher, great arm. I keep saying, I'm not the GM. I don't want to be the GM. That's a job I never will take. They have a job to do. I guarantee
you, if somebody put a nice deal, a nice package and they like it, it is what it is."
Similarly, Johnson thinks that he has developed affiliations with the Marlins as they kept him in the team for such a long time.
"This is all I know," Johnson said. "They've had me from the very beginning. I feel I owe it to them.”
Within few hours, the news about his trade can be expected. It will be interesting to see which team he plays for after the trade deadline.
