Josh Kerr secures place in Rip Curl Pro Search Quarter-Finals – 2011 ASP World Tour
The latest stop of the 2011 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour, Rip Curl Pro Search San Francisco, kept entertaining the fans with a heavy dose of exciting surfing action as Australia’s Josh Kerr squared off with his compatriot Joel Parkinson
in the fourth heat of Round 4 that went down at Ocean Beach in San Francisco, America, on Sunday, November 6.
The battle for top honours turned out to be pretty intense as both the Australians came up with commendable performances. However once the dust settled, it was Kerr who eventually walked away with a win, consequently securing his place in the Quarter-Finals
while sending Parkinson off into the fifth round.
The 27-year-old Kerr has looked to be in good form during the latest season of the elite ASP tour and managed to come up with consistent performances. Despite being surrounded by a number of surfing heavy weights, the seasoned Australian did not fail to
steal his share of the spot-light. Coming to San Francisco for Rip Curl Pro Search, Kerr continued to exhibit good form and look threatening.
Facing Parkinson in the battle for the Quarter-Final spot was Parkinson, another formidable Australian force to be reckoned with. He had been simply outstanding for most part of the year and had lived up to his repute during the latest stop of the APS World
Tour so far.
America’s Patrick Guduaskas was also part of the heat 4-line-up, but he was unable to compete due to an injury sustained during his Round 3 heat. He was automatically relegated to Round 5, though it was still unclear whether he would be able to compete in
the next round or not.
As the fourth heat of Round 4 started, Kerr started off a bit slow and only managed to score a 4.10 off his first business wave. Parkinson quickly took advantage of his rival’s weak start and posted a 4.40 and 6.17 on the score-board to put Kerr on the back
foot.
As the heat progressed, Kerr continued to look for an adequate score in order to move past the deadly Parkinson on the score-board. It was only in the final minutes of the battle that he managed to find a juicy wave, which he utilised to throw down a flurry
of spectacular tricks for a near-perfect 9.53. The resultant two-wave total of 13.63 points carried him off to victory and consequently confirmed his place in the Quarter-Finals.
