Josh Koscheck wants Nick Diaz next – UFC News
While Nick Diaz is looking forward to a title shot, Josh Koscheck wants to go head to head against him before he faces a champion. In a recent interview, Koscheck spoke of his possible opponents, naming Diaz as the one on top. According to Koscheck, Nick
Diaz, Demian Maia, Jake Ellenberger and Rory MacDonald are some of the fighters he wants to face next year.
Diaz’s trainer Cesar Gracie had issued a challenge to Koscheck, asking him to fight Diaz at the UFC’s Super Bowl weekend show. Speculations suggest that this show would be UFC 157 and will be held next year on February 2 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center
in Las Vegas.
“I am DOWN! Don't be scared Homie! #559 lol,” read Koscheck’s tweet, which was for Diaz.
It should be noted here that Diaz is under suspension right now and he cannot fight before February 4, 2013. He needs to apply for a fight license after February 4 in order to be eligible to fight again.
Koscheck has been one of the most successful fighters in the UFC. He is coming off a loss to Johny Hendricks at UFC on Fox 3 via split decision. Prior to his defeat against Johny, Koscheck knocked out some top fighters such as Matt Hughes and Mike Pierce.
His most impressive performance was against welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre, when he lost but proved his mettle against probably the best UFC fighter to ever live.
On the other hand, Diaz lost to current interim welterweight titlist Carlos Condit earlier this year in February. During the post-fight drug testing, Diaz was found with marijuana metabolites in his system and so he was suspended. He has not fought since
then and he needs to win a fight before getting a rematch against the champion, according to president of the UFC Dana White.
“When Diaz gets off suspension, he'll probably fight one of the top guys at 170 pounds,” said White last week. “Then we'll see what happens.”
For now, Koscheck is keeping a check on Diaz’s suspension. A fight between Koscheck and Diaz would be just what Dana White is looking for.
