Josh Lewsey makes return to London Wasps
Josh Lewsey the English veteran has been called back on a surprise temporary contract to London Wasps.
This deal is expected to be valid till the Aviva Premiership's season ends.
Lewsey unexpectedly decided to come out of retirement just give a helping hand to his club in the ongoing campaign. He has played for London Wasps for more than 10 years now and retired recently. He used to play at all the back three positions for his club
till 2011, but now he is back again for the love of the game.
Owen Joshua Lewsey is an English rugby Union player who retired from international rugby at the age of 32. He has been playing as a wing, centre and fullback for England and Wasps both. He is nicknamed in his team as OJ since he joined in year 2000. Though,
he made his international debut for England in 1998, where he played till 2008, winning 55 caps and scored 110 points for England. He has also been honoured with British and Irish Lions membership, where he won three caps in 2005. He was a regular member of
England's Sevens team from 2002 till 2008. Lewsey was one of England's front man players who created difference with their presence on field. He switched his professional career to mountain climbing and has also made a venture to Mount Everest in 2008, which
was unsuccessful due to failure of breathing apparatus.
Talking to media regarding this recent development he said, “This isn't a long term thing but after playing in a couple of recent charity games, Leon Holden and Shaun Edwards contacted me to see if I could assist the club for the remainder of the season.”
Talking about his positive approach towards re-signing, he added, “If they think I could positively contribute to my old club in any way - be it on the field or around the dressing room on match days, then I'd be happy to do so.”
The critics believe this to be a good decision, as the performance of Richard Haughton on the wing has not been so impressive so far and Lewsey’s inclusion will change a lot for Wasps. The upcoming fixtures will answer all the questions, but on a broader
aspect Lewsey had to make this decision to end his rugby career on a good and positive note for London Wasps.
