Josh McDaniels not sure if time is right to start Tim Tebow
At 3-7 the Denver Broncos are quickly falling out of play-off contention, which is leading many Broncos fans calling for backup quarterback Tim Tebow to start getting some playing time in order to give
23-year-old some experience. Head coach Josh McDaniels is not sure, however, whether the time is quite right or not.
"I don't know. I'm not willing to go there. That's not the case right now, so we will think about that when that happens. But it's not on our minds right now," McDaniels said to reporters when asked whether
he thought Tebow could replace Kyle Orton should the Broncos eventually fall out of contention.
At the moment it appears that McDaniels' main concern is keeping his team competitive and playing as if the play-offs are still within reach.
"We are still not out of anything yet, even though I know the standings don't look the way we would like them to look at this point," McDaniels said. "So, that's doing your job and every one of us is accountable
to do that, and we've got to come in here and put forth our best effort, prepare hard and see what happens."
There have been several factors contributing to Tebow's lack of playing time this year including the fact that the Broncos line is composed of two rookies who are still adapting to the NFL, the outstanding
numbers that Orton has put up this season, and the fact that Tebow is himself just not yet ready.
McDaniels himself admitted that he's not against putting Tebow in the game, only the ideal situation to do so hasn't presented itself. "I think we've had the one game against Kansas City where you felt
like maybe there is a situation there, but there were some other things that played into that," McDaniels said. "We're not adverse to doing it, we just haven't had many opportunities to do that this year."
