Josh Smith unclear about his future with the Atlanta Hawks – NBA Feature
Josh Smith’s future with the Atlanta Hawks is not clear, and the All Star power forward himself is not so sure about what is going to happen.
When asked a question about his contract with the Hawks, he replied;
“I can’t get extended. They didn’t give me the money; I had to go get it. That’s something I have to play it out and see how it goes from there.”
That does not look like someone who is excited about being in the Atlanta Hawks for another season.
Josh Smith is not happy with the team management, and we already know that he has requested a trade in the past. He re-signed his contract with the Hawks in 2008 when he was about to sign with Memphis and the Hawks matched the
Grizzlies offer. That did not go down too well with Smith, knowing he actually had to go out and get another offer for them to sign him.
This year, Smith has had a breakout season, leading the Hawks to the playoffs once again. His personal statistics have improved with many saying that he should have earned a spot in the All NBA third team. Hence, he is now looking
towards his future and does not see it with the Hawks since they are looking committed to winning championship. They have not made any major trades to strengthen their roster and give them the championship pedigree, much to the disappointment of Smith.
If the Hawks trade Smith, it would actually be a good bargain for both parties. Smith is at the peak of his career and many teams would be interested in taking him. On the other hand, the Hawks could get a nice deal in return that
could help them in strengthening their team by building around Joe Johnson and Jeff Teague.
Smith has been deflecting questions about him requesting trade from the Hawks because he could be fined for talking about it.
“All I know is I have one more year on my contract so I will definitely be here. I just have to go into the offseason to better myself and do whatever I have to do to help this ballclub. I was an Atlanta Hawk after the trade deadline
and I’m one now, so I have to look at some of the things I can do to help my basketball team win ballgames, especially in the postseason” said Smith when asked about his future.
Whatever happens, this will be a player to follow in the postseason as I personally believe that many clubs would be in the line to add a power forward like him to their line up. He also needs that for his career and his wishes
of winning a championship.
In my personal opinion, Smith would make an exceptional pick for the Chicago Bulls. His addition to the Bulls roster would give them the scoring option they are looking for and would give them diversity in their offense. How the
story unfolds for this young and talented player, only time will tell.
