Josh Willingham shines as Minnesota Twins beat Cleveland Indians 6-4 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins edged past Cleveland Indians 6-4 at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio on Wednesday, September 19 in second game of their three match series.
Twins secured a narrow 6-5 win in series opener and they continued the good work in Game 2 to wrap up an impressive series victory.
Starting pitcher Liam Hendriks showed just what he is capable of as he tossed up six effective innings to play a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash. Overall, Hendriks gave up just two hits and two runs to grab his first win of the season.
There is no denying the fact Hendriks is an extremely talented pitcher but unfortunately he has not been able to live up to his skipper’s expectations this season. Surely, he will be looking to continue his excellent form to cement his place on Twins’ roster.
Relief pitcher Alex Burnett, Tyler Robertson, Glen Perkins combined to give up just two runs in three innings to help Twins prevail in a thrilling encounter.
"It took a long, long time," Hendriks said. "I could have done without the shaving cream in my eye, but I'm excited to become the 16th Australian to win a major league game."
"I told him if it takes him that long to win again, the shaving cream is going to be gasoline," Gardenire said jokingly.
After Asdrubal Cabrera gave Indians the early lead, Joe Mauer singled to centre in third inning to put Minnesota on the board. Josh Willingham produced a match winning performance for his side as he connected for a massive two run home-run to left in the
fifth inning.
"It has been a special year for me," said Willingham.
"To make a long story short, I wanted three years and two teams offered that," he further added. "Cleveland was not one of them."
Catcher Chris Herrmann grounded into fielder’s choice to second and Willingham singled to left centre in the sixth to give Twins an impassable 6-2 score. Indians fought back bravely in closing stages of the match but the Twins held their nerves to complete
a deserving victory.
