Josh Willingham signs with Minnesota Twins – MLB News
The Minnesota Twins are taking some drastic steps forward to do well in the next Major League season as they have recently agreed to sign free agent Josh Willingham for reported $21 million designed for next three years.
Earlier, some inside MLB sources have speculated in the media that the negotiations are in the process as the Twins management and Willingham’s agent have yet to make a final decision while Willingham himself seems more than okay to play with the Twins after
a disappointing year with the Oakland Athletics.
Though, the final and official words on Willingham’s signing are still to come but according to some sources, the deal has been finalised and will be officially announced in couple of days after a detailed physical of Willingham in Minnesota.
The Twins’ general manager Terry Ryan has also stated that his newly signed player some two days ago. Ryan said, “I don't think you want to get on anybody's timetable but your own, It's important that we make sure we do everything and in our ability to try
to get a person to play that position as he will be on our roster [right field] that we like.” He added, “Nobody is backed into a corner here.”
Before the Twins, the Cleveland Indians were also in Willingham’s pursuit but could not convince him as his personal interest was to play in Minnesota. The Indians’ president Mark Shapiro however, commented in a social media website Twitter saying, “Willingham's
bat a perfect fit but defensive fit was not good.”
On the other hand, the Twins’ management was more determined to add him in the 40-man roster as they started to get into the negotiations early with Willingham’s agent as soon as the season was ended.
Regarding Josh Willingham’s skills, he is certainly a very productive player and batted at .246 along with 29 home-runs and 98 RBI for Oakland Athletics in 2011 regular season. His arrival in the Twins will make them stronger in the upcoming days while the
depth in their roster will also increase the chances for the Twins to perform with an extra consistence.
