Joshua Clottey to fight in hometown Ghana on March 6th – Boxing news
Long forgotten fighter Joshua Clottey will be having his next in Ghana, his hometown, on March 6, 2012 against Xavier Tolliver, also known as X-Man, from Atlanta, Georgia.
The fight will be for the NBA Light Middleweight title and will consist of 12 rounds.
After 10 straight years, this will be Clottey’s first match in his hometown. Clottey, who has 36 wins, 4 losses and 21 knockouts in his portfolio, will take on Xavier who has 23 wins, 8 losses and 15 knockouts in his bag.
Joshua Clottey’s career slumped after his fight in March 2010, which he lost to Manny Pacquiao. He is the former IBF welterweight champion. His comeback fight was in November against Calvin Green at 156lbs. Clottey brutally stopped Green in the second round.
Keeping this in mind, it can be concluded that Clottey will not have any problem against the 34-year-old Toliver.
On the other hand, Toliver has been on a slump too. He lost his last two fights by knockouts and another one through disqualification. Most analysts are of the view that Toliver has never faced any quality fighter, and whenever he has he always gave in.
Fighters like Walter Dario Matthysse, Said Ouali, Michael Oliveira and Anthony Mundine, have all defeated Toliver. The worst part is that Toliver was not even able to put up tough fights against these fighters.
Both fighters are on the decline of their careers which makes the fight a bit dull. However, considering the fact that this will be Clottey’s comeback match and it might get him a shot at the title if he wins, we can expect something out of the ordinary.
As for Toliver, we hope he breaks the spell and gives us something worth watching.
If Clottey wants to face Manny Pacquiao again to get his revenge, he must exhibit his fighting skills in this match. This is possibly his only chance to smoothly make his way to Manny Pacquiao, since Toliver is not a tough fighter to go through. On March
6th, this year, it will be decided as to whether Cottley can live up to the expectations or not.
