Josselin Ouanna thrashes Gabriel Moraru in the qualifiers – Serbia Open 2012
Seeded sixth in the qualifying competition, Josselin Ouanna from France, devastated the Romanian contestant, Gabriel Moraru, with a breadstick at the Serbia Open 2012, an ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 series event held in Belgrade,
Serbia. He joggled up a 6-3, 6-1 victory against the Romanian veteran to cruise into the final qualifying round on Sunday.
The Swiss resident took less than an hour to outmuscle Moraru in straight sets in their second meeting. The contestants previously met each other at the Black Forest Open five years ago and after earning this success, Ouanna maintained his winning record
against the world number 422.
Ouanna convincingly entered the SRPC Milan Gale Muskatirovic and kept his opening serve to tie the scores at 1-1. He then hammered powerful forehands and backhands to swipe in remaining serves. The French capitalised on his first break opportunity in the
seventh game and later maintained his intensity, cashing in the second break chance in the last game. He warded off all four breakpoints he faced and clinched the opener with a 6-3 score line.
Ranked 208th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Ouanna suffered the first blow in the following set to trail at 0-1. However, the French went out of control and stroke out the proceeding six games in a row, subsequently pocketing
the breadstick.
Summing up the 26-year-old’s performance at this outdoor clay court event, Ouanna clobbered a poor first serve share of 44 per cent as compared to his opponent’s 64 per cent but impressively availed 17 out of 21 points on it. He also spilled eight double
faults but fired eight aces to dominate.
Next challenge for Ouanna is the fourth seed, Eduardo Schwank, who eased past the local contestant, Miljan Zekic, in straight sets to occupy this position. The seeded Argentinean was broken down twice but cashed in four out of nine break opportunities to
formulate a 6-4, 6-4 score line.
The third seed qualifier, Aljaz Bedene, downed Goran Tosic of Montenegro in one hour and 55 minutes to join Ouanna. The Slovene hammered 11 aces and broke his rival’s serve three times to sum up a 7-6(4), 6-3 success.
