Jossi Wells releases Ski Dice application for iPhone
On September 15, the 2011 Association of Freeskiing Professionals (AFP) World Champion from New Zealand, Jossi Wells, along with Send It! co-founder Robett Hollis, Sent It! developer Ted Bendixson and graphic designer Nick Gladding, released ‘Ski Dice’,
an iTunes application that is designed for real skiers who are looking for a bit of twist during their skiing sessions.
The application is designed for the skiers who usually carry their phones with them to their skiing sessions. The application involves the shaking of phones, which in turn stimulates three dices. The first dice dictates whether a the trick needs to be thrown
in regular or switch, the second dictates the angle of spin and the last dice names the grab that is to be performed.
During a phone interview from his home in New Zealand, Wells said, "Right now the range is from straight airs to 1080s, spinning both directions. We have six different grab options and we also have a wild card that'll let you choose what grab you want to
do."
‘Ski Dice’ sure looks like a modified version of the popular action-sports phone applications such as ‘Skate or Dice’ and ‘Snow dice’, which is not really a bad thing, considering the popularity of the latter. Not only is it extremely easy to get a hang
of, it offers a heavy dose of fun and exciting time.
The application features jump and raid modes, six different grab options for jumps, four spin directions, big graphics for easy viewing on hill and different difficulty options. The option to increase or decrease difficulty allows a wider range of skiers,
of varying abilities, to enjoy the application and won’t make it limited to those adept at skiing.
On the other hand, those looking for a real challenge will not get disappointed either as the dices are likely to push their skills to the limit as well. When asked about the hardest trick that he had been dictated by ‘Ski Dice’, Wells said, “I rolled an
unnatural cork 1080 blunt the other day. I skipped over that one and rolled again. The only person I've seen do that trick was Matt Walker two years ago at Mt. Bachelor.”
The creators of the application have stressed on the fact that ‘Ski Dice’ is not a game but is an application designed for real skiers. Anyone interested in enhancing their skiing experience on the hills can buy the application from the iTunes store for
$1.99. The Android users will be able to get their hands on the application as well, though they will just have to wait a few more days for the good news.
