Question:

Journalism internship?

recently i discovered that I want to try and break into the field of journalism. I have a love of writing, but I'm afraid my eduction background is not adequate for this line of work.

I graduated with a Major in history (lots of writing) and a double minor in Psychology and Chinese language.

I lived in China for a long time and I learned to speak Chinese, I feel this may give me a unique edge.

I've been reading books hoping to improve my English grammar and other writing skills, still I feel I need guidance.

So I'm hoping i can find a internship in China that can help me develop my skills (well get them) and hopefully lead to a job over there.

any ideas?

  1. Print journalism is a hard field to break into, but they are always looking for interns.

If you live in a small town you have an advantage in that smaller papers give people a break.

My advice would be to read the newspaper that you are looking at and take a look at their style. There is something called AP (Associated Press) writing style, which most papers adopt and it is tweaked by local style.

Most papers are looking for a decent grasp of AP style.

Right now, newspapers are struggling to find their niche in a modern world. I personally believe there will always be a place for print media, but we need to embrace the new technological advances that come along rather that poo poo all over them arrogantly.
