Journey to England national team was tough for me, recalls Matt Prior – Cricket News Update
England’s wicket-keeper batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Prior-c1984, has recalled the sour memories of his early days in Test cricket, and said that it was really a painful journey that took him to the English side.
Sharing his initial experience in an article, Prior wrote that it was never an easy task for him to cement his place in the national team, as he was hurled out of the setup following a not-so-impressive show in his debut series.
“I’ve been through the mill a bit. It’s not the good times that make you the player and person you are, it’s the bad times. I got a ridiculously rough time when I first came into the England team. I got chewed up and spat out,” said Prior who made his Test
debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in 2007.
Although, there was nothing wrong with his batting skills, his glove-work came under heavy criticism as he was not too impressive with his job behind the stumps.
The wicket-keeper also expressed his concerns over the tradition of criticising youngsters very early in their career. He also disclosed that he was extremely disappointed when he was dropped out of the team in 2008, revealing that it was hurting for him
to hear people saying that he would never be able to play for England again.
Prior described that despite being severely censured by the cricketing circles within http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, he never let the odds affect his temperament and his aim to do well.
Following his outstanding run during the last few years for England, the South African-born batsman is currently sitting at the 25th position on ICC's Test batting rankings.
‘I was called an uneducated skinhead by a writer I have never met and people were even having a go at my mother for things I was supposed to have done. It was a complete character assassination. It all killed me. But it spurred me on and I’ve emerged stronger,”
added the 29-year-old batsman who played a key role in England’s historic triumph against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 - scoring 253 runs in the three Tests of the ongoing clash.
