Jovanovic to potentially have retired from international football
Liverpool's Serbian forward Milan Jovanovic has managed to put his international career into a temporary hold. The player has stated that he does not wish to play for his country until his domestic form with Liverpool improves over the
course of the season.
When Jovanovic was signed by Liverpool, it was strongly believed that the player would be on key with the English team and wouldn't have any problems with performing at his best. However so far the 29-year-old has struggled greatly and
has barely managed to make an impact at the club.
The player was in fact so dead serious about his commitment to Liverpool that he didn't even go to the airport to wish his international team-mates best of luck for their game against Bulgaria. Serbia however managed to win that game by
a score line of one goal to nil, however Jovanovic had the following to say about his actions: “Did I go to the airport to wish my friends good luck before the game in Sofia? No, because I didn’t want to be in the spotlight for nothing. This isn’t how I do
things.
“I am 29 and I have a career which is quite good, but I know when I am not playing well and that is why I told my national coach (Vladimir) Petrovic that I don’t want to be called up until I am playing first-team football at Liverpool.”
“This is the honest thing to do and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
The Serb has clearly hit some sort of mental blockade according to most experts, his decision to put his international career on hold till his league career shapes up, might appeal to some as being a bold move, but still is a rather childish
and peculiar one. The Serb needs to realize that his decisions to doing so might appear to be a rather selfish one to the national team-mates and he might even have to face the wrath of locals once he does go back home for vacations.
It is however ultimately the player’s decision to decide what he wishes to do about his career in the future.
