Joviality wins from Barefoot Lady at Tattersall Musidora Stakes – Horse Racing Update
Joviality was able to hold off Barefoot Lady by just a head to win the Tattersall Musidora Stakes on Wednesday May 11 at the York race-course.
York was the centre of attention for the fans of the sport and all those involved in the business of horse-racing since it featured the Tattersalls Musidora Stakes. This was a Group 3 event that was contended by fillies of age three over a distance of one
mile and two and a half furlongs.
Both the fillies were seen to struggle for the first spot, especially as the pair entered the final furlongs of the race. At the end of however, Joviality was just able to win the race in a very thrilling manner.
The race-horse Arizona Jewel, who was backed at odds of 11-8, was the hot favourite with the sponsors before the race amongst the field of five runners. Nonetheless, she was not able to live up to the expectations of her fans and connections as she only
managed to finish the race in the fourth spot. It is very possible that the filly will lose her position in the market for the Investec Oaks.
On the other hand, the winning filly was backed at the odds of 5-1 for this race and she was ridden by jockey William Buick. She trains under the care of the trainer John Gosden, who was needless to say, very pleased with the performance of his race-horse.
After his trainee won this race from the 9-4 favourite filly Barefoot Lady, Gosden is still not certain whether she will be aiming for the Oaks at the Epsom race-course. It has been revealed that he is considering the French Oaks for the winning filly.
Talking to the correspondents about the development of Joviality and her future plans this racing season, Gosden was reported as saying, “We’ve really like her this spring and she’s really come together. William says that’s the top end of her range (regarding
stamina). We wouldn’t bring maiden to a Group 3 for the fun of it.”
It will be interesting to see how Joviality can carry the winning momentum into the next event she competes in.
