Joycelyn Ko overpowers Bo Rong in Women’s Singles quarter-final at US Open GP Gold 2012
Canada’s Joycelyn Ko did not let her fans down as she made her way into Women’s Singles semi-final after crushing Bo Rong of USA at the quarter-final encounter of Yonex OCBC US Open GP Gold 2012 at Los Angeles, USA, on Thursday, July 5.
The in-form Canadian lady continued her giant killing performance in the tournament without taking any pressure of her local opponent and thrashed her in a sensational fashion by a reasonable margin on the board.
Joycelyn was confident and quick on court as she did not miss any chance to earn a wonderful lead over her rival and eventually knocked out Rong in straight games with a decent score by working well for 39 minutes.
On the other hand, the confused Rong failed to make her home fans cheer as she could not put up strong resistance against her Canadian challenger and bowed down to her in hard fought two games with a respectable margin.
In the first game, Joycelyn played composed badminton and did not let her local opponent to take an early lead.
The impressive Canadian showed her tremendous class at the ending points of opening half and took an 11-8 lead on the score board until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Joycelyn injected power into her well placed smashes and also dominated the pace of rallies from all areas. She kept a firm grip over the pace and dictated her rival to bag the opening game with a superb 21-16 score on the board.
However, the local lady also showed a strong character in the second game when she played aggressive badminton and remained toe-to-toe against her opponent until 7-7.
At this stage, Joycelyn played smart game at net and took an impressive lead of 11-7 until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Joycelyn continued her positive play but failed to maintain the lead as Rong showed stunning performance to bridge the gap by reaching at 19-19.
However, Joycelyn remained confident and positive at the ending points and took the set with a 21-19 score on the board.
Joycelyn won this interesting battle against Rong in two sets with a reasonable margin of 21-16 and 21-19.
