Question:

Joyriding consequences?

well summer is officially here, and although I don't have a busy schedule my family sure does. My sister is on a trip to russia for a month. My parents leave every weekday at 8:00 and get back at 6:30 / 7. This gives me about 10-11 hours of complete freedom.

Because my sister is away in Russia, her car sits out on the street in front of my house, gathering dust and being still. The keys are in a jar in the kitchen. I could easily take the keys and go out for a spin, but should I? It seems like it could either be really fun or really dangerous. I DONT have a drivers license, only a learners permit, but I've driven an acumulated 50 hours with my parents already. what are some of the consequences of joyriding my sisters car without a license? as the days get longer and longer im getting more and more bored and I need something to do outside of the house. thanks

  1. Some fool will blow a stopsign and total your car, landing you in the hospital for the rest of the summer and the car in the junkyard, then nobody ever trusts you again, plus you'll be liable for all the damage since the insurance company will s***w you because you should never have touched the car in the first place and all the witnesses lie on you. Dude. Talk to your folks about this. Take a walk to clear your head and think up how to start the conversation.

No, not you,the luckiest guy on earth: Gas and tires are too expensive to waste cruising around the same place over and over, and all your friends will pay your way if you take them with you just for listening to all their crazy ideas about risks you should take with stuff that isn't yours or theirs.

  2. if you get caught your not getting your license till your 21, along with any other violations you have, the cop will just pick you apart and find every little thing, my advice is dont do it just get a friend or walk.

  3. Your driver licence could be revoked for years and it could be considered grand theft auto...jail time my friend. My advice would be just ask a friend to drive you around.

  4. you only live once many cops go down your street offten id say do it most people i know have been driving for years with no license and if you get pulled over most of the time a cop will say dont let it happen again just make sure the tags are not up in the car and all the lights work wouldnt wanna give them a reason to pull you over

  5. wow, i would recommend NOT doing it...

here are some reasons why: (these apply only if you get caught/get into an accident)

    1.  you get your permit revoked, and have to wait about 3 years to get it again, depending on your state (some states have higher suspensions)

    2.  you will get a HEFTY fine.

    3.  when you do get your license, you will have to pay extra high rates for insurance because of this.

    4.  your parents or sister (depending on whos car it is) could get into trouble for letting you drive.  if they say they didn't give you permission, which they didn't, you would get charged with stealing the car.

    5.  there's a good chance they will impound the car, and you will have to pay to get the car out of impound.  this is very expensive.

    6.  then theres the punishment you get from your parents... that won't be pretty either.

    7.  if you cause an accident, the insurance company will not pay, so you and your parents will have to pay all the damage out of pocket... accident damage can add up fast, especially if someone is hurt.

think about that before you go joyriding.

  6. Yeah, definitely DO NOT take that care out for a ride. Even if you think you can get away with it, you'll be surprised. In most states, if you drive with only a learners permit and nobody else in the car, you'll be ticketed and the car will be impounded till the owner can come and pay for it to be released. On top of that, your permit will be suspended for 1 year in most states and your insurance (when its time for you to get a car) will sky rocket because you got a ticket for driving a car with only a permit and nobody in the car. I'm guessing you don't have insurance on the car either, so that will go on your record as well, and that will be another ticket.

My roommate last year couldn't have a car at college his first year. He did something rather dumb, he decided to take out his moms car with a permit only for a little joy ride. He wasn't doing anything stupid driving or anything, and he got pulled over (for a tail light not functioning - wow). Long story short, he had no insurance, a permit with nobody else in the car, and his moms car was impounded, he got a 1 year permit suspension, & his insurance is wayyyyy more than mine right now, he got a ticket for having a underage buddy in the car too and a ticket for driving without a parent as well as no insurance. I think the driving without a parent with a permit got him the most trouble from the insurance company now. I believe he was taken to the police station until his mom came to pick him up as well.

It's just not a good idea, i mean if you don't get pulled over like my roomie, what if you get into an accident? You wont have insurance and your sister will have to pay for damages as well as you having a bad driving record before even having a license!

get a good video game, get a job, something, but don't go joy riding, its not worth the risk.

  7. I don't think that this is a good idea. Wait until your sister comes back. The best idea to kill boredom is to watch movies, read books, take a summer job, following your hobbies, making new (trust able friends and a lot more). My advice to you is to be careful with the car. The car is hers and she would be worried for you and the car if she knows that you are driving the car. Another good way to keep yourself busy and to keep your sister happy (surprised) is to clean the car with a hose and vacuum it so that when she comes back, she will let you borrow the car with joy whcih you will greatly appreciate.

    Thanks.

  8. If you have no driver's license and you get stopped, the car will be impounded.

If your parents say that the did NOT give permission (which they didn't) then the prosecutor can charge you with auto theft.  If your parent says that they gave you permission, then now they have endangered a minor and they can take YOU AWAY to a foster home.  It is what the prosecutor wants to do that hour of that day.

Either way nothing good will come of it.

    Good Luck...

  9. The ultimate penalty would be death or killling your friends and facing 5 manslaughter charges and spending many many years in prison, but i personally would do it. Sounds fun, pick me up on your way across the country.
