Question:

Joys within the M25; a new British national day, by 2012. Effort to instill pride, or a media pleaser?

The two main events of the year in question occur ten miles of each other (Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Games). As with the current yearning to have bairns swear allegiance to the Queen, wondering if people far from the sparkling south-eastern land of England after...or during 2012 will feel pride, of sorts. Will people from a council estate here in the West Midlands feel the same way to 'British National Day' as a Mr. Bowes-Lyon, who resides on the Chelsea half of the Fulham Road. Of course, that's four years off - but most have become so cynical (be they seventeen, or 71) about Britain as a whole now, who's to say their cynicism becomes more vicious come 2012.

  1. what about an ANGLO - SAXON day to celebrate ENGLISHNESS LIKE FOOTBALL, JET ENGINE SO MANY INVENTIONS

  2. Its nonsense! maybe we should just do what Ireland, Scotland, and Wales do- and celebrate our patron saint's day- I'm not religious, but neither do I think pledging allegiance to the Queen is going to instill national pride in a society which has no self respect
