The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 technical director has confirmed that several European clubs have been tracking the American ace, but has also revealed that the talented striker does not intend to leave the Eredivisie outfit.
AZ Alkmaar striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jozy-Altidore-c19634, has been staging dazzling shows since his arrival at AFAS Stadion in the summer of 2011, and his impressive showings in the Dutch top flight have attracted interest from a host of European clubs.
Earnest Stewart, the Alkmaar-based club’s technical director, has confirmed that several top European clubs have been keeping tabs on the 23-year-old.
Some reports in Dutch media claimed that a club tabled a bid to acquire the services of the former Villarreal striker in the summer transfer window earlier this year.
The AZ chief has confirmed that his side turned down a bid for the highly talented hit-man on the final day of the summer transfer market. However, the Dutchman does not reveal the club’s name, though, he admitted that it was an elite European club.
“I can confirm that there was a bid for Jozy from a wealthy club from Eastern Europe. The bid was received at a very late moment; therefore we couldn’t sign an adequate replacement. For us, it wasn’t interesting as well”, Stewart was quoted as saying to
the club’s official website.
The club technical director went on to reveal that the American talisman had no intentions of leaving the club, which forced his side to turn down the offer.
“Also, Jozy was keen to stay at AZ. After years of travelling, he has really found a home. He doesn’t want to just leave the club”, Stewart concluded.
After enjoying woeful stints at New York Red Bulls, Villarreal, Xerez, Hull City and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bursaspor-c38700, Altidore has finally started to live up to the promises, which he showed during his youth days.
The 23-year-old has thus far netted an impressive 30 goals in 62 games in all competitions for the Alkmaar outfit. The tall striker has an ongoing contract at AFAS Stadion that runs until the summer of 2015, and it seems unlikely that the former New York
Red Bulls ace would be leaving his current side in the near future.
