Jrue Holiday carries Philadelphia 76ers past Charlotte Bobcats 105-80 - NBA Recap
Philadelphia 76ers’ lead in the Atlantic division had dwindled from three games to one and a half during last week’s 3 game losing streak, but on Monday night, they sent a clear message to their foes that they are a serious contender
for the playoffs by trouncing Charlotte Bobcats, 105-80 here at Time Warner Cable Arena.
Jrue Holiday was on song as he netted 20 points and dished out 6 assists. He shot 8-of-13 from the field and was 100% from the charity stripe.
"I've been going out more aggressive and trying to get everyone in gear out there. Hopefully everyone gets in line with me and we can take care of things out there." Exclaimed Holiday afterwards.
Thaddeus Young also had 20 points while Louis Williams collected 19 coming off the bench. Forward Elton Brand tallied 16 and Spencer Hawes chipped in with a double-double, scoring 13 points to go with 11 boards.
Philadelphia’s victory was the anticipated outcome, but their cause was made easier after the Bobcats completely melted down in the third quarter, shooting only 29% from the field which allowed visitors to pull away with a huge
31-19 margin.
Bobcats coach Paul Silas was disappointed with his teams’ effort during the second half;
They put a little pressure on us defensively and we just couldn't score in the second half,"
Gerald Henderson scored a team high 14 points while Reggie Williams and Kemba Walker netted 13 apiece, DJ White collected 12 coming off the bench as Bobcats received their 37th defeat of the season to nest permanently
at the bottom of Eastern conference.
Sixers claimed an early 14-8 advantage and after facing a slight resistance they concluded the segment with a 25-19 margin.
Bobcats came back strongly in the second and reduced the gap down to 35-31 midway through the frame. They then reeled off a 6-2 run and tied the scores at 37 each with 3:09 in hand. The Sixers eventually managed to scrape a slender
46-44 lead by the end of 1st half.
Henderson opened the 3rd period with a layup and tied the scores at 46; however the away side blasted their way out off the stalemate with a 23-9 spurt for a 69-55 lead. They didn’t face any difficulty in augmenting
their advantage to 76-63 by the end of 3rd quarter.
Sixers raced to 88-69 early in the decisive frame with 12-6 run. A 9-2 run down the stretch then blew the Cats away.
