Jrue Holiday continues to impress as Philadelphia 76ers beat Utah Jazz 99-93: NBA Recap
Jrue Holiday scored 26 points and dished out 7 assists as the Philadelphia Sixers beat Utah Jazz 99-93, snapping their three-game home losing streak. Jason Richardson had 20 points and 8 rebounds while Thaddeus Young added 14 points
and grabbed 8 rebounds for the Sixers.
Sixers came into this game at the back of an embarrassing loss to Detroit Pistons the other night, where they shot only 29.8 percent from the field. It was the worst performance by any pro team at the Wells Fargo Center since the
building’s opening in 1996.
"That one hurt," Holiday said after the game. "I know all of us here, even though Detroit isn't a bad team, you never want to be the one to have them get their first win. Knowing that, we didn't come out and play."
Holiday came out hot at the start of the game and fired in two three pointers in the early goings of the first period to put Sixers up 8-2. Young’s jumper had the Sixers leading 15-9 four minutes into the game. They started pulling
ahead after that and a 7-0 run extended their lead to 24-13 later in the period. The Jazz were trailing 20-30 by the end of the period.
Jazz started the second period strong, going for an instant 15-2 burst that put them up at 35-32. A Richardson’s layup tied the score at 37 few moments later. The Sixers found their groove again in the later part of the period
and were up 46-39 after a 9-2 run. They extended their advantage near the end of the period and went into halftime leading Jazz 52-43.
Jazz started the second half with 6 straight points to make it a 3 point game at 49-52. But, the Sixers kept up the scoring with shots from downtown - they scored 10 out of 18 from the three point range. A 6-0 run had them up 66-53
later in the period. The Jazz tried hard but they could not find an answer to the Sixers’ fine shooting from behind the line. They still managed to eat up some of the deficit and were trailing 64-71 by the end of the third period.
Utah scored 7 quick points to tie the score at 71 early in the fourth, but the Phillies answered it with a 6-0 run to go up again, at 77-71. They did not let them come close again and were leading Jazz 90-82 two minutes from the
end. Jazz tried desperately to cut down the deficit down the stretch, but it was not their night to be as the Sixers won 99-93.
Paul Millsap led the Jazz with 22 points and 7 rebounds, Al Jefferson added 15 points and 9 rebounds while Demarre Carroll came off the bench to add 17 points.
