Juan Brzezicki cruises past Guillaume Rufin into second round – Uruguay Open 2011 CH
The 2011 Uruguay Open, which is underway in Montevideo, Uruguay, featured a first round men’s singles competition on November 14, 2011. The Argentinean Juan Pablo Brzezicki played against French Guillaume Rufin. After a hand contest,
Brzezicki won the match 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.
As the first set began, Rufin used his service games to take a lead into the set. He won 70% points from his first serve but his play with his second serve reduced greatly as he could win only 47% points.
Brzezicki’s service games were not on the spot as he won 46% points from his first serves. He improved his serves when he won 63% points from his second serve.
The Argentinean could not deliver any ace in the first set but did concede a double fault once. The French, however, did score with an ace and went on without any double faults.
Brzezicki, ranked at number 217th spot in the world, had an 83% first serve winning ratio while Rufin, ranked at number 238th, had a 57% ratio. During the first set, Brzezicki was closing in to win the set
but he came very close by winning five games. He was not able to take the lead as Rufin won the first set 7-5.
With the second set in progress, Brzezicki was again unable to score any points with his aces but he got some edge by not conceding any double faults either. Rufin did manage to deliver an ace but he may have gone a bit overconfident
after his first set win, which is why he ended up conceding double faults thrice in the set.
Brzezicki had a 71% first serve winning ratio while Rufin could secure a 59% rate. In terms of their service games, Brzezicki won 60% from his first serve and Rufin won 69% points. The points in second serves reduced for both the
players as Brzezicki could win 38% points in his second serve while Rufin could only win 18% points.
The French could not play his service games with efficiency, as he could not save any of the three breakpoints he faced. On the other hand, Brzezicki could only save one of the three breakpoints that he faced.
Rufin did not play well in the second set as he won fewer games in the second set than the first. Brzezicki won the second set 6-4.
Both the players won a set each that made the match enter the third set to determine the winner. Brzezicki was aggressive and on the spot with his service games. He did not give any chance to Rufin to create any sort of lead.
The Argentinean had an 89% first serve winning rate and won 82% points from his first serve. He was flawless in his second serve for he won all points. He also did not let Rufin break any of his serves, which gave him a wide lead
into the set.
Rufin, on the other hand, did not score an ace and his service games were not on target. He could win 57% from his first serve and 38% points from his second. He was also able to save only two breakpoints from his four. Brzezicki
won the third set 6-2 and entered the next round of the competition.
