Juan Carlos Burgos: I want to thank the WBO for giving me this opportunity – Boxing News
Juan Carlos Burgos will be challenging WBO Jr. Lightweight champion Roman Martinez, although nothing is decided yet. Burgos hails from Tijuana, Mexico, and he is being promoted by Thompson Boxing and Banner Promotions. He is the mandatory challenger to ‘Rocky’
Martinez newly owned WBO crown.
“I want to thank the WBO for giving me this opportunity which I had a chance for before,” he added.
“I won't let this one get away from me, I want to fulfill my destiny with the WBO belt around my waist, I just need to know the date so I can prepare to go to war with Martinez,” said Burgos, believing he can defeat Rocky Martinez when they both meet.
Surprisingly, Rocky Martinez was not intimidated by Burgos’ confidence, instead he bucked up the young fighter saying, “Juan Carlos is a young warrior that has been waiting for his shot at the title. We are confident he will make the best of it but it will
not be an easy task against a good fighter like Rocky Martinez. It should be a great fight for the fans and we are proud to have gotten Burgos back where he belongs.”
Burgos further said that he is ready to take on Martinez, as he believes he has everything to defeat him. According to Burgos, he has been preparing for this day for quite some time and now that it has arrived, he will not let it slip.
Even CEO of Banner Promotions Artie Pelullo supported Burgos, saying that the lightweight contender is more than ready for this shot. According to Artie, Burgos is the man who has defeated the best warriors at 130 pounds, which makes the organisation confident
of his skills.
Artie added that the clash between Burgos and Martinez would be a classy one. He rated the fight as another ‘epic battle between Puerto Rican and Mexican fighters’.
Martinez currently stands with 26 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie in his portfolio, whereas Burgos stands with 30 wins and 1 loss. Martinez defeated Miguel Beltran earlier this month to grab the WBO lightweight crown.
