Juan Carlos Ferrero outclasses Marcel Granollers in second round – China Open 2011

Former world number one, Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain, faced no real difficulty in disposing of 32nd ranked fellow compatriot, Marcel Granollers, in the second round of the China Open on Thursday afternoon.
The all-Spanish affair took place on the outdoor hard courts of the Olympic Green Tennis Center, in Beijing, China, with the unseeded Spaniard displaying his vintage form to drive Granollers out of the competition with the utmost
ease.
Currently holding the number 84 spot in the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Rankings, Ferrero took one hour and thirty eight minutes to wrap up his comprehensive straight sets victory at 6-4, 6-4. His 16th
victory of the running season earns him a berth in the quarter-finals of the ATP World Tour 500 event.
Granollers suffered his fifth straight defeat at the hands of his fellow countryman in singles encounter. He was outplayed by Ferrero earlier this year in the round of 32 at the US Open, when he got retired in the second set due
to injury and now trails a 0-5 deficit in his head-to-head combats with him.
Nick named as the "Mosquito" due to his speed and his slight physical stature, Ferrero displayed pin-point hitting throughout the contest to take the better of his opponent. He converted two of his four break opportunities en route
to victory, with Granollers utterly failing to register a single break point in the entire contest.
Granollers crafted three break chances in the game but was denied every time by the sheer brilliance of his Spanish opponent. Ferrero dropped just six points on his serve, clinching 27 points to drive his opponent out of the competition.
He broke Granollers’ serve in the opening games of both sets and then held on his lead till the end to come out as the winner.
Ferrero will either take on the world number seven, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France, or the local wildcard entrant, Zhe Zhang, in the quarter-final clash. Tsonga and Zhang will play their match later in the afternoon, with the winner
getting a matchup against Ferrero for a place in the semis of the China Open.
