Juan Carlos Ovideo may not start as per schedule as he suffers elbow pain - MLB Update
The Miami Marlins’ relief pitcher Juan Carlos Ovideo confronts more wait ahead to have his first appearance in the season as he endures elbow pain which was triggered during a rehab game he was playing in Oklahoma City.
July 23 is the date after which he can play legitimately for Miami as the MLB-imposed suspension will come to an end.
Ever since the MLB has lifted the ban on him and has allowed Ovideo entry in the USA for playing baseball after prohibiting him last year due to an attempt to hide his identity, he is extremely excited to resume baseball activities in the season.
Furthermore, by the time he flew to Miami and was ready to start for the Marlins, the MLB had given the verdict that unless he can serve the suspension for a number of weeks, he cannot appear in the season. This made him spend time in the rehab games and
endure wait until the duration of suspension concludes.
Therefore, he was enthusiastic to do the closing job for the Marlins on comeback at the stated time.
Furthermore, aware of the fact that the closers have proven to be the team’s undoing, he was entertaining thoughts of becoming an instant success on return by pulling off stunning victories late in the innings.
In light of this, the reports of an injury by him will be disheartening for Ovideo. Although it remains to be seen how severe the injury is and how long he can take to return. For the time being, he has been ruled out for getting a call in the season.
As far as the Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen's strategy in the second half of the season is concerned, it will be a setback if Ovideo takes a long time in rehabilitation from injury.
After the closer Heath Bell has been poor on the mound, Guillen is considering various options for the closing job and among them Ovideo is the most important one.
Therefore, in order to give Bell some time off and bring in new closers, immediate recovery by Ovideo is extremely important for the club.
