Juan Carlos Oviedo is upbeat for July 23 return to Miami Marlins - MLB Update
Eight-week suspension is a lengthy span of time. Yet excitement of the Miami Marlins’ relief pitcher Juan Carlos Oviedo gives one an impression, as if he is going to appear in the next game.
Wearing the teams’ uniform once again after being ousted from the season last year is going to be a great moment for him.
Until eight-week suspension that Major League Baseball has imposed ends, he will be playing in Minor-League at Jupiter.
He will be fine-tuning his repertoire and will be making sure that once he returns, he will have worked-out all the bugs and flaws.
Oviedo has been playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. For many years, it remained unnoticed that age and identity he has registered is false. It was last year when he was exposed.
Taking into account a precedent of deception he set, immediately he was disallowed from continuing the season and was sent back to his home country.
As a result, the Marlins had to live without a quality reliever. Although the Marlins made number of attempts to bring him back, authorities were persistent with their verdict.
He pleaded guilty and some of his team-mates sought his salvation on the grounds that he was too young by the time he committed violation.
Larry Beinfest, President of baseball operations, also believes that young players like him are prone to commit errors.
"He made a mistake as a young man when he entered professional baseball," Larry Beinfest said. "It's something he's had to live with for quite a while. I know it's been a tough road for him, but he's handled things very well and we're very happy to have
him back."
Unworried about what happened with him last year, Oviedo is all set to resume on July 23.
"There are no words," Oviedo said. "I have the last name of my father, who died [in spring 2011]. That's what he wanted. Just happy.”
The Marlins have struggled to draw the kind of performance from their bullpen that they will have liked otherwise. With Heath Bell not being consistent, entry of Oviedo can go a long way in helping the Marlins fetch victories during penultimate innings.
