  1. Joel Casamayor is a more power puncher but Juan Diaz is a volume puncher that is that he throws lots of punches but not as powerful as Casamayor with that said i think Casamayor wins by KO because he has won his last fight vs Katsidis and he was a warrior on that night for getting up after being knocked out of the ring and coming back to KO Katsidis.

Diaz lost his most recent fight vs Nate Campbell who is aging but put up a great boxing performance. Diaz needs to have punching power to win vs Casamayor his flurries will not do any damage and if Casamayor puts pressure on Diaz it will be a similar win like Campbell won vs Diaz.

  2. I would have much rather seen Joel Casamayor defend his championship against the true number one contender, Nate Campbell, seeing as how Campbell just beat Juan Diaz.  Also, Campbell and Casamayor have unfinished business because they fought once before and Casamayor beat him by decision in a close fight.  But, I still think that this will be a pretty good matchup, even if it is coming way too late.  This matchup should have been made before Diaz lost, but he got beat by Campbell, and yet he is still getting the shot at Casamayor- that just doesn't seem right to me.  As for who I think will win, I really think that Diaz is a good fighter, but as soon as he got tested by a veteran guy who was still hungry and had a lot left in the tank (Campbell) he got beat.  Casamayor is another hungry veteran looking to feed his family of 5 kids and he does not have any other line of work whereas Diaz has repeatedly stated that he doesn't need boxing because he's getting his education.  Boxing is not his number one priority, but with Casamayor, it is.  I think that when this fight occurs, Casamayor will once again show why he is the true lightweight champion of the world like he did with Michael Katsidis and he will pull out all the tricks in the bag to beat Diaz.  Plus, I don't know if Diaz is ready yet to go back into the ring with someone like Casamayor, because even if Diaz wins, Casamayor will be there all night to test his will because "El Cepillo" is not going to quit like Julio Diaz or Acelino Freitas did- he is way too tough and determined even at the age of 36.  I say Casamayor wins by late stoppage, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Diaz outhustle him to a points victory.

Edit: I recently read on fightnews.com that Casamayor is going to fight Campbell next.  Even though Casamayor is the true champ, he has the WBO "interim" belt, so he is the mandatory challenger for one of Campbell's paper titles.  The WBO ordered the fight to take place by July 6th and asked Casamayor's people if he wanted the match, and they responded that he DOES want the match and will begin negotiations shortly, so it looks like these two will square off once again- good because Campbell deserves the shot at Casamayor more than Diaz does.

  3. joel ko

  4. Can't go by their last performances.  Katsidis was a costom made opponent for Casamayor, while Campbell had the perfect game plan, and fought the fight of his life against Diaz.

Personally I'd say Diaz, because with each passing fight Casamayor slows down that much more, and his whole style is based on his reflexes.

Still I wonder if Diaz has lost his taste for boxing, since he has always claimed it wasnt the most important aspect of his life anyway.
