Juan Garcia grabs a split decision win over Yordenis Ugas in eight-round bout – Boxing news
On Showtime’s Friday night show, two pugilists entered the ring for an eight-round skirmish to defend their respective win streaks and collected ample praise from the crowd since the American Juan Garcia patiently absorbed the waves of punishment thrown
by the Puerto Rican proud Yordenis Ugas, and collected a split decision win in his favour.
The bout co-headlined the pay-per-view put forth by Bob Arum of Top Rank and the ring for the event was stretched at Casino Del Sol situated in Tucson, Arizona, United States. The Friday night weekly show was headlined by the championship bout between Diego
Magdaleno and Fernando Beltran.
Juan and Ugas both were entering the ring with undefeated streaks on the line. The duo has been in a total 11 bouts and interestingly came out victorious in all. From the very beginning, Ugas had the odds in his favour because of his hefty intimidating 300-plus
bout amateur career.
During the bout both men put forth a great show and the end result perfectly exhibited the effort threw in by the two men. Ugas, was slightly behind Juan as far as the knockout ability is concerned.
Ugas has collected five of his wins by knockout as compared to Juan’s eight wins. The two opponents were perfectly equal in all the significant brawling aspects, the reason why the skirmish became altogether an interesting one.
The bout kicked off and Ugas started to pound Juan brutally. Both men strived hard to find a perfect gap in order to throw a powerful jab so as to collect a clean and swift knockout win but the Puerto Rican Ugas was the lucky one who connected a thunderous
jab for a knockout.
Just 50 seconds before the end of the last eighth round, Ugas moved forward swiftly and connected a huge blow that rattled Juan’s world eventually making him move backward in defensive mode.
The 29-year-old Juan did not let his senses go out and broke the referee’s 10-count to start and continue the things again. The bout ended and the three designated judges allocated 76-75 and 76-75 to Juan whereas 75-76 in Ugas’ favour.
The two belligerent’s battled toe-to-toe and the scores were evident of this fact. During the bout, even the ring side commentators were astonished by the impressive pugilism of the two men.
Barry Tompkins, announcer Showtime, praised Juan and commented, “Garcia, a little rough around the edges, but he’s an action fighter. Everybody loves an action fighter. (Ugas will) know he's been in a fight.”
Juan, who because of the powerful last jab thrown by Ugas received a cut under his left eye, now has 12 wins in a total 12 bouts and Ugas has collected his first ever career defeat just by an inch.
